Constance was so flustered by Nathan, she didn’t notice the two demons floating nearby.

“Oh dear Satan, but that was gross,” said Yaman, wobbling a little as he and Shadow turned to follow Constance from the movie set. They rose up, floating high above her, as she shakily got into her Camry and turned over the ignition.

“Ugh. Kissing—disgusting,” Shadow agreed, then groaned. “I think I might be sick.”

“Wait until we land, for hell’s sake,” Yaman chided. “I don’t want squirrel guts all over me, thanks. Besides, this jacket is Armani.”

“Ar-what?”

“Ar…Never mind,” Yaman sighed. “It’s not like you’d know anything about fashion since you don’t wear clothes.”

“Nice of you to notice,” Shadow said sarcastically. “Was it the fact I’m a shadow clue you into that one?”

“Whatever. I think that prophet did it to us on purpose.”

“I doubt she knows that Pride and Glutton demons hate PDAs,” Shadow said.

“Still,” Yaman said, wrinkling his nose, “I’m going to have to go kill something just to get the bad taste out of my mouth.”

“If you get to kill someone, then I get to eat someone,” Shadow said. “Fair’s fair.”

“Ugh. Fine. I’ll restrain myself.” Yaman sighed. “But I’m going to need therapy after this.”

“Therapists are pretty tasty,” Shadow said. “Nice and tender.”

“You have a one-track mind.” Yaman looked down and saw Constance back out of her parking space, nearly hitting another car that she didn’t see. That car honked at her.

“What? I’m just saying, you should really just let me eat that prophet. If she’s going to go around kissing everybody and having visions with holes in them, then you have to let me eat her.”

“No. You heard what the general said.”

“I know. I know. We have to take her alive.”

“She’s the key to all this. Satan doesn’t know what the Big Guy’s next move will be until she has another vision. Satan isn’t going to come to earth until the coast is clear.”

“Coast is clear of what? Goats?”

“Ha. Funny. No, God’s troops. Last time, God sent his Archangel Special Forces. And those guys are seriously badass.”

“Tell me about it!” Shadow said, and shuddered, remembering his own run-in with the wrath angels. “I saw enough of them at Gomorrah. I hope they don’t come this time.”

“Me too,” Yaman admitted. “Any sign of them and I am totally out of here.”

“Coward,” sniffed Shadow, whose stomach gave a loud grumble. “So why don’t we just kidnap the prophet? Then we wouldn’t have to follow her around all day—and as a bonus, she wouldn’t kiss anyone, either.”

“Hey—that’s not a bad idea, Glutton.” Yaman considered this a moment. “Of course, if she’s a prophet, she might see us coming.”

“Her? Are you serious? She can’t even control her visions yet. She couldn’t predict a sneeze, much less us. Besides, she ran right by us and didn’t even notice.”

“That’s true.”

Yaman watched as Constance gunned her car down the small dirt road, whipping it onto Route 9 and nearly colliding with an oncoming car. The other car slammed on its brakes and honked at her.
